Brain Healthy Cooking for One- This program is brought to you by Cornerstone in Milford on a new date, Wednesday, March 28th, 1:00 This free and informative demonstration will focus on the Mediterranean diet, which provides protective benefits and enhances cognitive function at any age.  Sign up at the senior center.


Orchestra of One – Join us on  Thursday, March 15th, 11:00 when we welcome back Susan McLeod.  She was amazing when she performed for us in December, you won’t want to miss her St. Patrick’s Day event!  She will have sing-a-long songs as well as her orchestral pieces.  Plan on joining us for the Tri-Valley lunch of corned beef & cabbage following the free performance.


Planning for Medicare - Are you nearing the age of 65 or just have Medicare questions?  We’ll be hosting a free general seminar on Monday  March 19th, 10:00.  Please stop by or call the senior center to sign up for this informative session sponsored by BCBS of MA.


Prescription Advantage - Join us for a presentation on Wednesday, March 21, 11:00 detailing the state-sponsored supplemental prescription drug insurance plan for Mass seniors (age 65+) and low-income people with special needs.  Come see if you are eligible to take advantage of this beneficial program.


Mendon Stories - Join us for the next installment of the Mendon Stories as told by Jim Buckley on  Thursday, March 22, 11:00.   A Milford resident, writer and life-long educator, Jim returns after rave reviews to share another historical tale.  This second program will explore the life of another Mendon native, Civil War Hero Henry Harrison Young (1841-1866).  As previously mentioned, Jim has numerous published historical stories, including dozens about Mendon’s past. 


Savvy Caregiver Program

In April, we will begin the a FREE 6-session Tri-Valley training for family and friends who are active caregivers, caring for those living with Alzheimer’s or related dementias.  Savvy Caregiver will help you:  Understand the impact of dementia on you and the person you are caring for, Learn the skills you need to manage daily life, Take control and set goals, Communicate more effectively, Strengthen family resources, and more.  The program will be held on Thursdays, April 26-May 31 from 1:00-3:00 at the Mendon Senior Center.  Laura Black Silver from Tri-Valley will lead this program.  For more information or to register contact Amy Wilson Kent AWilsonKent@mendonma.gov, 508-478-6175.  Or Laura Black Silver lblack@tves.org, 508-949-6640 ext. 3079.

Senior Spring Celebration and Education Event!

The Worcester County Reserve Deputy Sheriff’s Association will be hosting this event on Wednesday, March 28 from 9:30-2:00 at the Leicester Senior Center, 40 Winslow Ave.  All are welcome.  This free event will include lunch and cover topics such as “Project Good Dog”, Keeping Sharp with Humor and Healthy with Essential Oils, Tips for staying healthy and strong as you Age.  Also, they’ll have senior safety bingo, public safety & wellness tips, community resources and so much more!  Please rsvp by March 13th at dostiguy@worcestercountysheriff.org or call 508-796-2638.

 The Friends of Mendon Elders News and Updates...

Now is the perfect time to join the Friends and get involved!  The annual book sale will be held on April 6, 7, 8 at the Senior Center.  We need volunteers to begin sorting the books now.  We will need volunteers on Thursday, April 5th to set up the tables and books for the sale.  This job will require lifting books.  Please call Sue Carlson at the senior center or email her at friendsofmendonelders@verizon.net to be added to the list of volunteers.  Drop off your book donations at the senior center.  The Friends meet the second Monday of each month at 11:00.  Their next meeting is Monday, March 12 at 11am at the senior center  All are welcome.  You do not have to be a senior to join the Friends.  The Friends of Mendon Elders offer a discounted membership to BJ’s Wholesale club with your annual dues payment.  Annual dues of $5 are payable to the Friends of Mendon Elders.  Please fill out the form below and include your dues when you mail or drop it at the senior center.

Friend’s Lunch Bunch—Join us for a lunch outing to Savini’s Pomodoro Restaurant in Woonsocket on Wednesday, March 28th at 11:30.  Carpool from the senior center or meet us there.




Technology Classes  Beginning in February, we will be offering technology classes at the senior center again on Tuesday afternoons from 2:30-3:45.  Students from BVT High School will help seniors with phones, tablets, computers and other electronic devices.  Bring your own device or use one of the senior center computers.  Call or stop by the senior center to register.
